Prolific and experimental electronic artist, Ben Fleury-Steiner, has created with sound since the early 90s. He constructs the sound sources for his various projects using electric guitar, hardware effects, ebow, samples, field recordings, found sounds, and various software applications all processed via PC. A tireless sonic explorer, Fleury-Steiner has released numerous works under his own name and the alias paradin on his Gears of Sand label, Dissonance (Maryland, U.S.A.), Mystery Sea...

A roughly chronological collection ranging from some of my earliest gameboy tunes to the ones written in 2002. While the first half presents an innocent fun approach (aside from the harder edge of Harm Parm), the concluding three tracks show a maturation in both style and technique. A must have for high school makeout parties.

The deliciously delayed debut release from I, Cactus brings you a short collection of sweet tunes filled with heartbreakingly innocent melodies. As you stroll along with the sun at your back, one cute cactus after another bouncing happily behind you, with this carefree blend of chippy harmonies and clicky crunchy beats you'll never look at a cactus the same way again. Featuring such treasures as "Bamboo Cactus" an unforgettable remix of Nullsleep's "Playful Panda" - this...

The first time I had been in contact with Russian producer Vladislav Kudryavtsev was when he asked me to release the MONOKLE debut LP "TESAURUS" with 12rec. Although all the quality was there I did not feel it suiting the label sound too good. Fortunately, the album found a proper home with ideology.de early in 2009. When it turned 2010 Vlad was in contact again, this time pulling a collaboration LP with vocalist GALUN out of the magic hat. Sergey Galunenko aka GALUN is a former...

newport, 40 years ago. this is what the folkies must have felt like: they came to see their idol, they came to see the saviour. when bob finally entered the stage, the first thing he did was pluggin' in his guitar and let his fans taste the new 'electric dylan'. folks gone mad, booing and whisteling. once more, the artist was ahead of his followers, and critics nowadays praise the bob dylan songs with his guitar amplified and overdriven more than his folk music tunes. where's the connecting to...

They did. Seventeen chosen songs from recent and future 12rec. artists. You can download the compilation for free. You should do so! But if you really really want to support 12rec. and our artists, make sure to take a look at the fine digipak CD we got done.

Having discovered Japanese techno artist Tatsu from his wonderful early work on his net.label Bumpfoot, we co-opted him to do an exclusive new EP on Monotonik, and the immensely lush 6-track 'August EP' is the result, showcasing the immensely pure, almost Detroit-tinged pastoral electronica - no tricks, no feints, just a trip back to the classics. We start with 'Stillness/Introspective Me', which briefly showcases some gorgeous ambience, before moving straight into 'Sky and Sea/Daytime Dream',...

We last released something from UK idm-er Aereal all the way back in 2001, so we were delighted when he contacted us and asked us to release a short EP with some of the best tracks he's worked on since then. Thus, we have the 'Moved Moment EP', a four-track set of delightfully looping electronic music. So, where are we? We start off with 'Move Moment', a driving, driven piece of percussive melodic goodness, before moving on to the wonderfully smooth 'Direct Medic', and onward and upward to the...

In tracking some of the more obscure niches of the Japanese retro-bleep music scene, Monotonik has picked up a gem or two in the past (see: Blasterhead ). And we're pleased to say that we've struck oil again (or at least, some gushing black pixels) with the first album from Japanese duo Kplecraft, 'KNMS-001', a deliciously alternative blend of Game Boy bleep and jazz-techno improvisation. Here's what you need to know. Kplecraft consists of Kuske (Nintendo Game Boy with Nanoloop 1.2, saxophone,...

A long, long time in the making, U.S. artist Troupe presents his first EP for Monotonik, 'It's Really Pretty Simple After All', a plain spectacular mix of demo-scene inspired electronica, soaring melodies, and beautiful vocals. Imagine, if you will, an American who has grown up and been musically influenced by the greats of the Amiga demo-scene - which this label itself was birthed from in 1996. Then mix in transcendent vocals reminiscent of favorite Monotonik releases like Bliss, and you get...

Following the first Monotonik release from Swedish idm-ish artist Stefan Ternemar, aka ST, in 2003, we waited around a little, and suddenly, another EP popped up. Interestingly, although the first 'Emotions In A Box' release was very much epic electronic, almost Chris Huelsbeck-ian synthwork, everyone evolves, and thanks to guest spots from a fellow Swedish Monotonik artist (check the ID3 tags for a hint), and some new influences, the 'I'll Meet You There EP' keeps the epic melodies, but slides...

Nine Inch Nails presents Ghosts I - IV, a brand new 36 track instrumental collection available right now. Almost two hours of new music composed and recorded over an intense ten week period last fall, Ghosts I - IV sprawls Nine Inch Nails across a variety of new terrain. Trent Reznor explains, "I've been considering and wanting to make this kind of record for years, but by its very nature it wouldn't have made sense until this point. This collection of music is the result of working from a...
